He looked for a second coming of the whale rider and he thought that the person would be a male. I thought that the notion is too old and it is strange. First, he was frosty to Paikea, but he was getting kinder and kinder to her. He seemed to be good grandfather and grandchild. I felt relief. But one day when Paikea went with her father to Germany, her grandfather said, “It was the beginning of unhappiness when Paikea was born. He looked forward to the serious who saved their village from death. It meant whale rider and it did not mean a woman. He was too dissatisfied with Paikea. I felt anger at the words.
